El Cherokee 2019 es una actualización del modelo que Jeep lanzó en 2014 (Más información). El SUV de 4,62 metros de largo recibe cambios visuales (sobre todo en el exterior) así como más elementos de seguridad y confort. Puede ser muy eficaz fuera de la carretera, es cómodo en carretera y tiene un interior espacioso, de calidad normal y con varias soluciones prácticas. Con motor diésel de 194 CV y tracción delantera, está disponible desde 47.400 euros, la versión más económica con tracción total cuesta 59.400 euros (todos los precios). El equipamiento estándar es abundante en comparación con la versión Access.
La versión Trailhawk está disponible a finales de 2019. Está mejor preparada para el uso todoterreno gracias a elementos exclusivos como una mayor distancia al suelo (221 mm) y un diferencial autoblocante en el eje trasero. Cuesta 56.300 euros (ficha de datos).

Hay dos motores disponibles. Uno de ellos es el motor diésel de 2,2 litros, que ahora produce 194 CV (seis menos que el modelo al que sustituye, debido a las modificaciones realizadas para ajustarse a la normativa de emisiones Euro 6D Temp) y que además siempre va asociado a la caja de cambios automática de nueve. El segundo es un motor de gasolina de 2.0 litros y 272bhp y estará vinculado exclusivamente a la versión Trailhawk, al menos por ahora.
El Cherokee está disponible con tracción delantera (ahora con transmisión automática) o tres sistemas de tracción total. Manejamos dos unidades del Cherokee con el motor de 194 caballos de fuerza, una con Active Drive I y otra con Active Drive II. Al igual que con algunos motores diésel, es un poco ruidoso a bajas velocidades y con una fuerte aceleración (apenas se nota a altas revoluciones). Sentimos que el motor es lo suficientemente fuerte como para maniobrar fácilmente a través del tráfico, aunque la sensación de empuje es un poco menos fuerte de lo que sugieren las cifras de rendimiento.
La transmisión automática funciona sin problemas. Jeep dice que lo ha revisado para ofrecer una respuesta más suave y una mejor economía de combustible. De los pocos informes que logramos recopilar, el consumo es bueno (alrededor de 8.0L/100km bajo aceleración frecuente, para un viaje de alrededor de 200km que incluyó tramos con baches).
El habitáculo está muy bien aislado del ruido de rodadura y del contacto del cuerpo con el aire, haciendo del viaje un vehículo confortable. La suspensión sujeta bien la carrocería y ofrece un buen nivel de comodidad, aunque se siente un poco rígida en compresión. Utilizando la unidad con el sistema básico de tracción a las cuatro ruedas (sin caja de cambios ni control de descenso), hicimos un pequeño tramo de todoterreno con un nivel de dificultad bajo, pero que nos sirvió para comprobar el correcto funcionamiento del sistema electrónico de distribución de par. entre los dos ejes.
