1) Huge signup bonus (worth over $750)

The biggest advantage of the Chase Sapphire Preferred card is the huge sign-up bonus it offers. Here's a quick rundown of what's currently on offer:

  • Earn 60,000 bonus points when you spend $4,000 in the first three months
  • Bonus points have a travel value of $750 when redeemed through the Chase travel portal
  • Points can also be transferred to 13 travel partners, potentially for greater value

Again, you'll get 60,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points if you spend $4,000 on the card in the first three months. That translates to $750 in travel redemptionsChase-Portal,But you can also redeem them for gift cards at a slightly cheaper rate. Antenna!

Transferring points to one of Chase's travel partners usually earns you even more valuable redemptions. And luckily, these points never expire as long as your account remains open.

2) Great Travel Deals

We believe Chase Points are the most valuable reward points you can earn. They are extremely versatile and worth the golden trip.

There are several ways to redeem your points. However, the most profitable way is to redeem them while traveling. Although Chase points alone are only worth 1 cent per point, redeeming those points for travel means you can earn 1.25 to 2+ cents per point!

There are two ways to achieve this:

  1. Redeem points through the travel portal- Chase points allow you to book travel experiences directly through the Chase travel portal. Here your points are 25% higher (1.25 cents/point) than their cash value! You can redeem them for airline tickets, hotels, rental cars and cruises.
  2. Transfer of points to partner loyalty programs- Chase points are matched 1:1 with 13 popular travel partners. Partner programs include Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, British Airways, Air France, Marriott, Hyatt, IHG and more.

Transferring points to partner programs usually yields the highest value per point and is usually our preferred method of redeeming our own points. For example, the 60,000 point sign-up bonus is usually more than enough to cover round-trip flights to Europe.

So yes, those points are valuable!

3) Transfer points to 13 travel partners

Chase Sapphire Preferred Card® Benefits: 12+ Perks You'll Love (1)

If you're new to rewards cards, you may not realize the commitment you're making. It takes time, energy and money to earn points. So you have to make sure to collect those pointscorrectlypoints and miles.

That's why a flexible rewards card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred is the perfect choice to start with.

With co-branded hotel or airline cards, you stay with the points you earn. For example, if you earn 80,000 American miles or Hilton points, you can only redeem your points through those brands. But what if you find a better deal on another airline or hotel? You are still stuck at these points.

Fortunately, Chase Points can be transferred to 13 different partner programs. They can also be used to purchase travel experiences through the portal, making them much more flexible than points and miles offered by individual brands.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred lets you redeem your points for gift cards at your favorite stores. Retail partners include Lowe's, Macy's,, Best Buy and many more.

While gift cards aren't the most valuable way to redeem Chase Points, it's good to know that you won't be left with an abundance of points and nowhere to redeem them.

6) Earn bonus points for travel and dining

The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card earns you a cool 5x points on travel purchased through the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal and 2x points on other travel purchases.

In addition, the card offers a $50 credit on hotel stays purchased through the Chase portal.

When it comes to food, you earn 3x points when you shop for food. This even applies to online orders for pickup or delivery at eligible stores.

Spending in these categories can add up quickly, making the card valuable for these occasions.

7) Earn 5x points on Lyft rides

If you love to travel, chances are you're using a ride-sharing app at your destination. From getting to your hotel to finding a restaurant, apps likeLyftit's a great way to get around the city for less. We use them all the time and love them.

Wouldn't it be nice to earn extra Chase points every time you take a ride? Can you now!

New for 2020, you'll now earn 5x points every time you book with Lyft. It's my favorite new Chase Sapphire Preferred and I plan to use it often. Of course, you'll have to pay for the ride with your CSP, but chances are you already do!

8) Free DoorDash deliveries

Also new for 2020 is freeDoorDash DashPass subscription. So if you want to order, this is your card.

If you've used DoorDash before, you know how convenient it can be. Easily order food from your favorite restaurants and have it delivered straight to your door. However, you're probably not thrilled with the delivery charges applied to your order, which can be expensive for large orders.

In our opinion, the most important thing you get with a DashPass membership is free shipping on orders over $12. For those of us who love DoorDash, this is a major savings!

9) Travel Insurance and Protection

Points aren't the only benefit of the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card. It also provides essential travel protection for those who need it. Here's a quick look at some of them:

  • Trip cancellation/interruption insurance- Receive a refund of up to $10,000 per trip in prepaid non-refundable travel expenses if your trip is canceled or interrupted due to covered and extraordinary events. (Think illness, injury, storms, etc.) Of course, you must use your card or points through the portal to make purchases.
  • Main car rental insurance- The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card provides primary car rental protection (up to the cash value of the car) when you use your card to pay for the rental.
  • Travel delay insurance- Non-refundable expenses incurred as a result of a flight, train or other delay on another airline are also eligible for a refund of up to $500 per ticket. The delay must be at least 12 hours and you must have used your card at the time of booking.
  • Baggage delay insurance– If your luggage is delayed for more than 6 hours, a refund can be claimed for purchases of items such as toiletries and clothing. Refunds are limited to $100 per day for up to 5 days and your card must have been used for the reservation.
  • No foreign transaction fees- Like all good travel cards, the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card charges no foreign transaction fees.

10) Buyer Protection

Along with travel protection, another key benefit of the Sapphire Preferred Card is that it offers additional purchase protection that everyone will love.

  • Purchase protection- Items purchased with this card are insured for up to $500 per claim for theft or damage within the first 120 days of purchase. You are limited to a lifetime cap of $50,000.
  • Extended warranty coverage- Chase Sapphire Preferred extends warranty coverage on products purchased with your card for an additional year. Items must be made by US manufacturers and the original manufacturer's warranty must not exceed three years.

11) Combine points with other chase cards

You can transfer points between multiple Chase cards for free, maximizing your spending and growing your points collection.

Just use such cardscard nameor theChase Freedom Unlimited®to accumulate as many points as possible in a certain category of expenses. When you're ready to redeem your points, simply transfer them to your CSP account to stretch them even further.

For example, the Chase Freedom Flex Card offers 5% cash back on the first $1,500 in total spending in rotating categories each quarter. You also get 3% cash back on restaurants and 1% cash back on everything else.

Whenever possible, it makes sense to claim the 5% cash back. Then use Sapphire Preferred for other purchases.

The Chase Freedom Flex also offers its own sign-up bonus. You'll get a $200 one-way cash back bonus if you make just one $500 purchase in the first three months. That's practically free money! It's also a great way to earn even more points that you can redeem for travel.

12) Reasonable annual fee

There is a $95 annual fee for the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, but don't let that put you off. The signup bonus alone is more than that!

Also keep in mind that most top rewards cards come with an annual fee. Many premium rewards cards also have significantly higher fees.

For example theChase Sapphire Reserve®-Kartealso offers some veryvaluable travel benefits. However, a high annual fee of US$550 has to be paid for this. While the benefits pretty much outweigh the pay (and possibly more), that big number can be a tough pill to swallow.

Getting started with the Sapphire Preferred Card is a great way to get your first experience without spending a dime on annual fees. If you are not a (very) frequent traveler, we recommend that you start with the CSP card first. You can always upgrade to the Booking Card later!

Why you should get this card first

To get the most out of your points and miles, you may need more than one rewards card. Because Chase Ultimate Rewards is our preferred rewards currency, it's important to remember that Chase can sometimes be stingy when it comes to granting approvals.

Due toChase rule 5/24If you apply for more than 5 cards in a 24-month period, you won't be approved for many of the top rewards cards. This includes the Chase Sapphire Preferred. While this may seem like a lot of uses, as you delve deeper into the points and miles game, you'll find that there aren't that many.

So grab thiscard namewhile you still can. It's arguably the best all round card out there and we want you to miss out on the huge sign up bonus by applying for too many other cards.
